"All of nature mourned ..."

Did anyone else notice the weather today? In Utah it was so windy and stormy that the schools wouldn't let students drive home. The roads closed and the city practically stopped. Total white out blizzard with freezing rain. Are you thinking what I am thinking.

Exhibit A: Summer 1994. Mega micro-burst blows down 70 foot trees all over Utah -- exactly one day after Ezra T. Benson passed on to the other side.

Exhibit B: Winter 2008. Huge sudden cold front blows 50 mph winds and closes schools and roads just hours after the passing of Gordon B. Hinckley

Exhibit C: (This is the kicker) Summer 1846. This is from the journal of my great-great grandmother, Rhoda Chase Stoddard Hineman. "Then came the martyrdom of our prophet, Joseph Smith and his brother Hyrum. I saw their bodies lie in state. Oh it was terrible! The winds blew, the dogs howled and the cows groaned. All of natured mourned the loss of our prophet."

That is how she explained it. Maybe Rhoda can read my blog like I read her history. To her I say, after today I now know what you were talking about. All of nature mourned the loss of our prophet.

I was thinking the very same thing!

Same thought crossed my mind, when it was raining and snowing and our power went out---and the only light we had was from the lightening in the distant hills..

That's what I thought, too! You're a genius!

I'm no genius, just a believer. I will have to do more on Rhoda later. She is a freakin' rockstar of the frontier.

I noticed. I stood on my chilly porch for a long time, noticing.

Where do you get all this stuff? Do I have the same stuff and just haven't read it?

Up in Washington we are getting plastered with snow! Church was even canceled on Sunday. My kids haven't gone to school all week! The snow just keeps coming!

My Casey has been going around helping everyone dig out, the snow plows are working 24/7.

I'm glad we haven't had the wind like in Utah, but the weather is talking to us up here!

geo - I knew you would notice.

Lisa - I will have to send you a copy of this history. I guess I just thought everyone in the family had a copy. She is Nellie's mother.

I remember witnessing the microburst in Provo, UT after Benson's death while I was in my backyard. Trees were blowing down every where.
The next year in March 1995, there was another microburst (not as big as the first)that I witnessed in Provo again. Oddly enough, this happened right after the Death of Howard W. Hunter. More trees were blown down across the city. I made a mental note to watch for any future storms after our next president (Hinkley) died, and sure enough the winds howled once again.
