Remember how I said living in DC is a lot like camping -- the fun factor all depends on the weather? It's hot, muggy and periodically rainy. Walking out the door feels like jumping into 100 degree Jello. That's why we decided to go to the zoo at 7:00pm in a rain storm. Actually, it was the perfect zoo outing. We found great parking and stayed for exactly one hour. Did I mention the zoo here is FREE? I love this city despite the cruel climate.
I must of been feeling cranky because I didn't bring my camera, which is female, non-verbal language for "I'm going, but I refuse to have any fun!" (Am I the only one that does that?) Blame it on the heat. Luckily, Katie was on hand with her camera and played photographer.
We hung out mostly around bronze animal sculptures and the live cats which eased Katie's transition home. In Africa she saw a real wild cheetah run across the road right in front of her. If you ever have the chance definitely try to make it to the DC zoo. It is the best zoo I have ever seen.
Here we are in the dark pouring rain watching fierce tigers on the prowl for DC bull frogs. Xanny decided the Buddha panda was his Daeman. What is it about pandas that generates so much buzz? Is it the drugged up looking eyes or the bamboo breath?
After the zoo we headed to the DC temple to see "Katie's Movie". (She played on the sound track of the newish Joseph Smith movie.) You can see how muggy the air is with the temple barely visible in the back ground. Then, of course, we stayed far too late and the kids SCREAMED and FLAILED the whole hour and a half it took to get home. I didn't feel the spirit.

Why is that cheetah just sitting there chewing on a log? Sometimes that's how I feel.
I would go to a zoo to see Cindy chewing on a log.
