Marines night out - 8th St.

Editor's note: This post is dedicated to Marsha P. because she loves a man in uniform and Annie Stucki because she thinks I will walk up to just about anyone and take their picture. Yeah, so?

The scene is a weekend night on 8th St. - Barracks Row. On Friday nights the Marines put on a parade inside the barracks for special guest and the public. Consequently, it is an evening of stepping out. The street has an old fashioned feel anyway but when you throw a bunch of service men in uniform wondering around, hanging out in bars and picking up on the ladies - it is positively 1945.

As I was walking down the street this nice Marine asked me if I knew where I was supposed to go to get information on tonight's performance. Just then he offered me his arm and told me he would escort me the two blocks down the street to the right spot. Uhhhh? Marco, where are you? (I ditched him at home with my two screaming kids. And look where it got me.)Dear Marsha P. Ellis,

I am sending you this nice boy in the mail. Please feed and water. Don't say I never did nothin' fer ya.

Love, Andi These girls were a crack up. I asked if I could snap a picture and in one second they struck a pose.

This girl has found herself a military man and a great big shiny rock on her finger. Check out the bling! D.C. wouldn't be D.C. without the pimple-faced youth choir tours EVERYWHERE. By a show of hands, how many of you came to DC on a youth tour? (I confess, I am guilty.)

If you look closely you can see a reflection of me taking a picture of these guys in their shoes. It looks regulation to me.

I am honored by the dedication and will try harder to take better photos of strangers.

We have lots of men in uniform around here, but they are the uniform of the Mexican Police. Our first day here there were some huge demonstrations so there were hundreds of police getting out their riot gear. Not as peaceful or as nostalgic as 8th St.

Are you ever going back to Utah? We will be there mid-July. We very much want to see you all.

I want this post to be dedicated to me. Those Marines are cutie-patooties!

Great pictures like always! Love the potty training too...
Where did you get the cute hat, I just had surgery (skin cancer, can you believe it?!) and the only good thing about this is that I have an unlimited budget for hats.... So hard though to find a cute one! Utah is very lonely without you and now even Kirsten has left. :(

Anne - Maybe it is best if you don't try to take pictures of Mexican Police point blank. Stick with fried pig skins, at least it is already dead.

Chindy - There are plenty of Marines to go around so don't get into a cat fight with Marsha over this one. Wait on the other hand, a cat fight might be just the thing to get these guys interested.

Mirjiam - WHAT? That is a really random thing to happen to someone like you! Sounds like one more good reason to be in Germany instead of the desert. The unlimited hats might prove fun though. This one came from a Hawaiian grocery store last month. I bet Thanksgiving Point has a bunch of good hats.

Kim - there is a nice marine in our ward that I think you should go out with. He's even a return missionary and seems an unlikely marine. I will have to invite him over for dinner and find out more about him. I will return and report later.
